On Monday, March 27 at 16.00, an online conference titled “Financial Analysis from the Perspective of Bankers” was held by Dr. Ahmet ALANLI, a faculty member of our University's Finance-Banking and Insurance Department. Our department students participated in the conference.

Adem SOYLU, the regional manager responsible for credits, participated in the conference as a speaker. The conference continued with the questions of Dr. Ahmet ALANLI.

After briefly talking about himself, Adem Soylu mentioned the importance of financial analysis for bankers. Soylu emphasized that financial statements alone are not sufficient for financial analysis of companies, and the moral integrity, i.e., the intention to pay debts, of the company owners is also very important. Soylu also stated that while conducting financial analysis, it is necessary to consider having knowledge about the sector in which the company operates for a healthier interpretation. On the other hand, he argued that the main reason for the existence of companies is to make a profit, and profitability ratios should be examined very carefully.

Regarding the question about “the benefits of banks for the economy,” Soylu stated that banks, which he evaluated as the most important locomotive of the economy, contribute significantly to capital accumulation and the realization of investments. Additionally, Soylu emphasized that banks also positively support the country's tax collection as they play an active role in the transition to a registered economy.

Regarding the question about “financial analysis and decision-making in credit allocation,” Soylu stated that although the financial structure and other data of companies may be very good at the time of credit allocation, they can change very quickly in critical times. He argued that dramatic events such as the Covid-19 pandemic and earthquakes can mislead the predictions obtained from financial analysis and reporting. Therefore, he said that financial analysis experts should develop some intuitive skills in addition to interpreting the data.

Soylu lastly gave advice to students about financial analysis and a banking career. The conference ended with Dr. Ahmet ALANLI from the Banking Finance and Insurance Department thanking the speaker Adem SOYLU for his presentation.
